This linear voltage regulator is easy to use with just a power in, ground and power out pins. No external circuitry required. Can be used as stand-alone or incorporated into an elaborate circuit. The LM7805 can handle up to 35V DC input and can source up to 1amp. It provides a steady output voltage of 5V DC which can be used to power a circuit, or charge your cellphone.

Basic Circuit

The LM317 is an adjustable 3−terminal positive voltage regulator capable of supplying in excess of 1.5 A over an output voltage range of 1.2 V to 37 V. This voltage regulator is exceptionally easy to use and requires only two external resistors to set the output voltage.
